Weeds 0, Scuffle Hoe 2

If someone had told me a year ago that this year's garden would look so amazing, I would not have believed them. It just so happened that I ran across the ad for the Grow Appalachia-Grow Morristown program right before the deadline. I was so excited to find it, because last year's attempt at an organic garden was a fail and my inner farmer was really disappointed. I got an acceptance email, and here we are.

 We got the garden rough plowed and then the rain kept coming among other obstacles.  It finally stopped raining long enough to get the tilling completed by our fearless leader and company and again I had hope! Lots of rich dirt and hard work later, this year's garden is really coming along nicely! 

The whole family has been involved at some point or another and will continue to be, so this is the most wonderful thing about it for me. I think that was partly why the program was created and it works like a charm. As we know, buying organic foods can grow costly and it just isn't always available. I hope to have an abundant garden so that we can preserve some for winter. 

Of course with good rich dirt, comes plenty of weeds. As part of the program, we were given seeds, plants, supplies and tools for the garden. One of the tools is a scuffle hoe. I believe I may have seen one before this, but I had no idea what it was or what it did. I decided to sharpen the scuffle hoe and try it out! Wow! These things work beautifully and I love it so much! Weeding is much more efficient with this tool and I get satisfaction when I use it. Whoever decided to add this to the list of things for the participants, Thank You!! 

I really didn't think we would be chosen to participate, but I feel very blessed to be a part of this program. I am hopeful that I will be able to pay it forward and share knowledge that has been shared with me and to be more involved with future programs! Thanks for reading!!
